URBAN KOOTHU THE BILLA DON NITE The Launch Party Friday 5th December 2008 Urban Koothu, a new club night to promote Tamil music and its artistes was launched at the Mango Lounge in London. In Tamil 'Koothu' means 'dance' and is also the name used for a type of music known popularly as Gaana. Gaana/Koothu is popular amongst the South Indian and Sri Lankan Tamil communities across the globe. Recently the music genre was been given the mainstream spotlight thanks to hip hop legend JAY Z, who featured on MIA's recent track titled 'Boyz'. The theme of the night was 'Billa Don', with guests dressed up as their favourite characters from the Tamil language movie 'Billa' or the equivalent Hindi language movie 'Don'. Dj Paddy kept the crowd entertained with a selection of the latest rnb, hip hop, Tamil and gaana dancefloor anthems.
