UNIVERSITY OF WESTMINISTER TAMIL SOCIETY PRESENTS
Mystical Night 2006
The University of Westminster Tamil Society is one of the more recent additions to the Sri Lankan & Tamil Uni Socs based in the UK. Less than a few years old, it managed to put on a good show which was quite unexpected for a very small society which number just a handful of members. The show consisted of fashion shows, a Villu Pattu, western dance routines and live PA's.

The aim of the of the event was to raise money for the children affected by the Tsunami and to build an orphanage to help those who have lost their beloved parents and family in the aftermath. As a group, the Society wanted to show the people of Sri Lanka that they are not forgotten. This years President is Krishna, an overseas student from Sri Lanka who has had friends and family members affected by the Tsunami.

This event was an intimate event which used its size to its advantage. The comperes, Rajani & Para did a great job in creating a smooth transition between performances and any unexpected technical difficulties, but most importantly they interacted with the audience, chatting to them on certain topics discussed in the acts.

I was pleased to see that the society invited Santhosh, a young up & coming urban musical act to perform. It is important that societies provide opportunities like this in order for the acts to gain more stage experience and recognition. Santhosh, an accomplished musician and producer performed a few tracks from his forthcoming album. His last project was Sujeeth G’s album ‘Singles’ and he is now currently producing tracks for Subzero, Sujeeth and potentially Krishan as well. I’m looking forward to the new material.

Overall it was a good show, which I expect will improve as the Society grows in size & experience in the future. The after party was a great opportunity for some of the members and their friends to really let loose. The organisers would like to thank all the acts, society members and sponsors for making this event a success.
